Title: Joining the Excalibur Guild
Post by: Ashtar on October 03, 2005, 11:12:14 AM
I haven't applied yet or let it known that I wish to join one of Silvermoon's finer up and coming guilds, but I am letting everyone know that I am interested in joining.

I am a 60 paladin (I know, they're overpopulated) so I know it may be tough getting in. I would like to say that I've heard many good things about Excalibur I would like to do what I can to further their repuation and to aid in  creating a larger and thriving guild.

I am attuned to all high-end dungeons (almost finished with Onyxia though).

Characters:
Ashtar(Mining - 300, Engineering -  280)
Memlock(Alchemy, Herbalism

Im mainly using Memlock for potions. Im deciding if I want to build him up or not.

Feel free to find me ingame if you ever find yourself in need of a paladin for raiding/questing.

Thanks,

Salem

In case anyone doesn't know, this is the same paladin who tried and successful did con several people out of Alterac Valley on both Thursday and Saturday.

He sent them tells saying they had afk flag up, some people didn't realise his ploy and were conned into afking out of Alterac Valley, thusly wasting up to 7 hours of their time. To make it worst, he did this for almost the entire time period and repeated this horrible thing on Saturday.

He's also been blacklisted by half the server because of this. In fact, to be honest, I was almost taken off guard by this and several of my friends got kicked because they didn't realise his evil and dark ploy. He's quite infamous on the realm forums and I feel his actions would give Excalibur a terrible name/reptutation.

That's fine.

I'm a good guy.

No, I didn't do it the entire time. I sent one message per person.

Yeah it was stupid of me and I'll never do it again. Alterac Valley lasting 9 hours and not being able to get in is just ridiculous and I did something desperate to get in.

I'm not a ninja, I don't rip people off, I help people in need, I give away free mats/gold to developing characters.
Think what you want of me.

edit. ok, i saw the post on the silvermoon forums. /cry (only a few people responded half of them were horde talking about the AV game itself)

I'm leaving my current guild and am going to ride solo for awhile. If anybody needs me for the engineering repair bot in long raids, I'll be available and should have 300 engineering by the end of the week.
I understand if I can't join your guild.

Im confused.  How/why do you/would you "trick" someone into /afking out of a game?

How: You simply say "your afk flag is on" and nothing else.
Why: AV game was up for nearly 12 hours, I got in the queue the 2nd hour, waited for 5 more hours and the wait time said 3.5 hours. I noticed most of the people there had been there for 6+ hours and I wanted in.

Yes, it was a stupid thing to do due to some people just then joining AV. Some people will sit all night and not give anybody else a chance to play. 12+ hours of AV? *glances around* Will I do it again? Hell no! I'll just start getting in the queue on Saturdays and Sundays before a game is even up.

For those of you spreading this about me who think I'm some kind of "loser" think of the people sitting at their computers for 9+ hours sweating and stinking while playing battlegrounds at Alterac. Swiping an epic someone needs who would ACTUALLY EQUIP is a lot worse than simply telling somebody that their afk flag is on.

I left my current guild to prevent them from gaining a rep and joined this guild full of new people to the game and I've been giving them mats and even loaned this priest 40g to get her level 40 mount. Wow, what a bad guy I am! Such a con artist, A scammer.

I'm still interested in joining Excalibur, but my chances are pretty slim now. Thanks though.

I promise I don't suck. I consider myself to be one of the better pallies on Silvermoon (atleast the ones that I've come across)..

Sometimes I wonder if people think while playing this game

(yeah, I get the irony to that last statement but it's not intended)

if you are better at being a leader in the community, then maybe i could see that people/things change, but if you are just referring to skill... that has zero to do with entering our guild... although we do have some hella-skilled people (omg jate i said hella)

two things i see here as being problems with u Joining.
First and foremost is can we Trust u?

Secondly Would u be able to intergrate into a guild that has members who are obviously against what you have done.

Myself? i've led a few guilds/clans and i can say reputation is a hard thing to gain back once lost, seen it waaayy too many times, and wouldnt want to see some1 bring Excaliburs into question. So as it stands? I wouldnt let you in. But i would like to see u do runs with guildies, so ppl can get to know you, and make up their own minds. Because you still have 2 rather major issues to deal with Ashtar, and you need to deal with them at least with the guildmembers, before you could intergrate properly into the guild. This is all, however, just my opinion. It is not my decision if u get in or not, but i would say u need to earn the trust of the ppl in this guild, plain and simple.

that depends on if members of your guild hold grudges. i do wish to work with them whenever and wherever if your guild's  willing to try to look at me from a different light. My aim isn't to "prove myself" more so than it is just for me to play this game as I have been for the past 9 months meaning you get to know me, like me, love me, wanna give me baths. that sorta thing.

I wouldn't want to do anything to Excaliburs reputation either.  All I'm really looking for is a cool guild with lots of cool people who know how to have a mature/cool time playing the game. Given, my actions weren't exactly "mature" that night of AV, overall I'm a cool guy.
I'm up for doing any kind of raiding with members of excalibur. In fact, I've been in many already with you guys. I"ve also seen many of you in AB (Go PuGs!)

(kidding about the love and bath thing)

Okay, I'm SO NOT GIVING YOU A BATH!!!

*giggle*

On a more serious note, and normally this would be said in private to the applicant but this has become quite the topic of discussion *heh*, the officers have spoken about your application and we have decided that for this recruiting session (October 15th round) we will have to decline you membership. There are several reasons for this, I'll list them briefly.

Firstly and foremostly, we have far too many applicants this month to be able to take them all (they don't all apply on forums, so you can't see them all), so we have to be selective as we don't like to let too many people in at once or it will dilute the guild and make us lose that family atmosphere. Secondly, there is the issue of mistrust. I'm not saying that you can't be forgiven and move past the ding on your rep for the lame tactic you used to put yourself ahead of others in AV, but I am saying that it puts you far lower on the list when it comes to prioritizing who is getting in this month. Finally, again, with the AV thing, Excalibur is very careful about who we let into our guild.

This doesn't mean you can never get in, it means that you're not getting in any time soon, while this is fresh. If you have a serious desire to join us, I suggest you continue to work to reverse the damage you've done to your rep on the server, post on forums to keep in touch, group with guild members and just wait until public attitude changes as people see that you aren't really a turd. No guarantees about when or if you would get into Excalibur in the future, those are just our suggestions.

On a final note, I'm going to give you a chance to respond here, and then, in the interest of allowing you to move on with your efforts, I'm going to lock this thread because I don't think that it's really neccessary for everyone and their dog to comment on your application.

Well, that's fine. This is where I say something really awesome about you guys and that I' remember when I was level 20, I saw this mighty warrior (I forget his name) killing millions of mulrocs, thrashing them around with his maul. Above his name stood proud "Excalibur." It was that moment, right then, that I knew I must be part of this guild with near superhuman powers.
And then this is where I say something nice about your website/forums and how the white background goes excellent with the blue/black text and hyperlinks. Did you pick those out? its really fly

And this is where I say later. See you in game? yes.
